Coast Guard suspends search for missing plane passengers

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a Manhattan CEO and three others who went missing after their plane disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle earlier this week.

The search for Jennifer Blumin, her two sons ages 3 and 4 and her pilot boyfriend Nathan Ulrich was officially called off Thursday night at 8:45 p.m., officials said.

“This was a swift and significant loss and its impact has reverberated through everyone that participated in the search,” said Christopher Eddy, a Coast Guard search and rescue mission coordinator. “Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the families involved.”

The four had just spent Mother’s Day in Puerto Rico and was flying to Florida Monday when their twin-prop MU-2B airplane vanished off the radar about 37 miles east of the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas.

Communication was lost at 24,000 feet and a speed of about 345 mph, officials said.

The plane left Borinquen, Puerto Rico around 11 a.m. Monday and was en route to Titusville, Fla. to refuel.

The Coast Guard has been searching the area around the Bahamas all week, covering a radius of more than 11,140 square miles – or larger than the state of Massachusetts, officials said.

Debris, including chunks of a seat and a red “remove before flight” tag, believed to be from the missing MU-2B plane was found floating 15 miles east of Eleuthera.

Blumin is the owner of Skylight Studios, an event production company that converts spaces for the film and fashion industries.

Ulrich is a University Of Pennsylvania -educated former Coast Guard auxiliarist who was previously married to actress Rae Dawn Chong.
